Importing from China
Most of the goods we handle leave from China. A few points are settled before shipping, never after.
The incoterm
It decides who pays what, and from which point the goods are your responsibility. A price quoted ex works and a price delivered to your door are not the same thing.
The customs classification
The code assigned to the product determines the duties owed. It is checked at costing, otherwise the bill arrives after the goods.
The paperwork
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin where it applies. An incomplete file holds a container in place.
The Chinese calendar
New Year halts the factories and saturates departures in the weeks before. Rates rise, and space is booked early.
These points are handled during production, not once the goods are ready to leave.
